It’s coming up on the one year anniversary of Zoom happy hours. We still can’t believe we’ve been hunkering down virtually for over a year. Luckily, our small but mighty team could spend hours, literally, on our Zoom-sesh get-togethers, but we know that’s not the case for every team. That’s why we’ve come up with a few ideas to spice up your Zoom happy hour experience to make the most of your Friday nights.

Either/Or Round Robin

This is one of my personal favorites. Here’s how it works; one person begins with an either/or question. For example, “cats or dogs?” Go around the room with responses and take turns coming up with questions. Eventually, as those creative juices (and happy hour beverages) get flowing, the questions become more and more intriguing, obscure and knee-slapping.

Not only is this a fun way to keep conversation going, but it’s a great game to get to know your co-workers better. After a year of virtually clinking glasses, conversation can run dry. This will undoubtedly spice things up.

Themed Happy Hour

You can get creative with this one, keep it simple or even a little silly. Make everyone pull out their good ol’ ‘90s attire. Or try dressing as favorite characters from your most binge-watched quarantine shows. The more unique, the better. The best part about this one is every happy hour can have a new theme.

MTV Cribs: Quarantine Edition

This one would be best with small, tight-knit teams. You’ve seen the same square of everyone’s Zoom background for almost a year, but there’s a whole space to see. Have everyone give a mini tour of their office or room in which they Zoom from. Getting a little too personal? That’s okay! Try grabbing an interesting item from nearby and running a workplace show-and-tell.

Virtual Escape Room

Okay…now we haven’t completed this one first-hand, but it is officially on the docket for an upcoming happy hour. We’ll keep you posted. This experience is virtual and purchased with a license key. Your team will be challenged to find a way through mysterious puzzles and secrets hidden all around you.

The online escape room allows two players or teams. A good screen share will get everyone involved. Then make your way through the virtual puzzles. It’s sure to be a fun and perplexing way to change up the same old happy hour.

Name That Tune

This one can be super fun with coworkers of all ages, backgrounds and music tastes. Have one person create an eclectic playlist of songs. They’ll play a portion of a song and coworkers race to “name that tune.” Change who makes the playlist each week. This is a fun, light-hearted way to get to know more about each other.
